PokerStars partners with Casino di Campione

Italy’s storied Casinò di Campione has a new partnership with PokerStars and Sisal SpA to open a dedicated poker room and host live events at the venue.

A spokeswoman for PokerStars cautioned that talk for the return of the European Poker Tour (EPT) there was premature. But all indications are that major tournaments will resume at the historic casino, which first opened its doors in 1917.

The casino said that under a four-year partnership, PokerStars would manage the poker room at Casinò di Campione and draw on its experience to host large events there. The agreement could be extended for another three years — for a total of seven years.

That’s a shorter span than the length of time since the EPT last came to Casinò di Campione. The tournament held a 21-event series called EPT Campione in March 2012.

Lizzie Wilson, PR lead at PokerStars, told PRO that “starting next year, Q1 2025, we plan on running regular large scale live events in Campione. Once we gauge the success of this, the conversation may open up around the return of the EPT to Italy.”
